다가설 때 보이는 것들

세상엔 멈춰서야 비로소 보이는 것들이 있고, 멀리 떨어져야 보이는 것들도 있다. 대개는 "다가설 때 보이는 것들"이 많은데, 접시꽃, 당신은 유독 다가설수록 아름답다.

다가 서니 역전의 용사처럼 겪어온 나날들이 풍파로 가득했음을 보여주는 꽃이 보인다. '힘들게 살았지만 결코 굽히지 않았구나!' 생각하며 대견함을 느낀다. 꽃잎에 앉은 새끼 사마귀가 보이니 신기하고, 날아드는 벌들을 통해 걔네들도 우리처럼 살고자 일하는 존재임을 알게 된다. 

멀리선 그냥 빨갛게 혹은 핑크색으로 보이던 꽃이다. 다가서면 그 디테일이 보인다. 그 때 비로소 접시꽃은 생명의 실핏줄을 보여주고, 핑크는 빨간색과 흰색의 경계이거나 그 경계를 허문 색이란 사실을 알려준다. 

올해 들어 전과 달리 보인 두 가지 꽃은 봄의 작약꽃(함박꽃)과 여름의 접시꽃이다.

Things Seen Up Close

Some visible only from afar, others near.

Approaching unveils myriad truths,

Like the hollyhock flower, uniquely lovely as it appears.

Close at hand, days worn like a warrior's mantle,

Storm-laden, yet showing resilience in the fray.

Marvel at fledglings perched on petals gentle,

Or bees in flight, toiling like us day by day.

From afar, merely red or pink in hue,

Yet closer, details emerge clear and true.

The hollyhock flower, a lifeline vivid and new,

Pink, a blend where red and white accrue.

This year brings forth two blooms, distinct in sight,

Spring's peony flower and summer's hollyhock flower bright.
